Panzer Cards 4.14.05
I had this scrap book once. It
was basically a big hardcover book with
blank pages in it and it was so big, I found it easy to cut the front
sections off of the boxes of built armor model kits and adhere them to
the pages within. Armor models became popular in Japan in the seventies
and the box art has since held a reputation for being of the highest
quality. I studied these paintings from the time I bought my first
armor model and never lost the admiration for this fine work.
It was a real thrill when a good friend lent me these wonderful game
cards to scan for my own amusement. They came one at a time when some
magazine was purchased. The magazine is still unknown to me. Anyway,
the idea was, you bought your magazine monthly and got these collectors
cards. Once you had the complete set of cards, you could assemble them
to form a game map. one card held the game pieces and the rest could be
laid out on a table or the floor where you played a game of strategy
with both the map and pieces - most likely small armor types.
Too bad about my scrapbook. Like so many things from my youth it kind
of slipped through the cracks and disappeared forever.
The following are scans of just a few of the cards in the set and
reflect the art that was so wonderfully rendered at the time. I still
love this type of artwork and never tire of looking at it. they are
certainly deserving of a page on wargear.
