Blurred pattern - Version 1

This pattern was completely infuenced by 3 exsisting schemes; Waffen SS Blurred Edge Oakleaf Variant, M88 Russian Woodland, and the great SMK pattern. I wanted something that resembled all 3 as they are very useful while retaining a pleasant asthetic for the soldier and collector alike.

These samples are part of an ongoing study and I hope to have a few versions printed onto prototype uniforms. I have yet to finalize it and I'd prefer to not only finish the pattern in a way that it can repeat itself properly but also build a 3D wireframe of a coverall that I can map this pattern onto for scale reference.

One of the influencing patterns - the great M88. At left, an original Soviet issue. At right, a current Ukrainian model.

A close up of my Version 1 Blurred pattern. I added some texture as if printed on a garment. This also may be the intended scale for the pattern.

The fuzzy edge along the shape plus the addition of what looks like a creeping water stain help achieve it's intended look.

These two are different color variations and intended as spring/summer colors. The far left image (summer variant 2) shows the colors I am partial to as of right now. Summer variant 3 is an extreme reversal of colors but seems quite effective with the contrast being punched up. The Green base is very appealing.

Perhaps I got a bit carrried away with colors here but I think they's be very effective in most late fall situations. Fall variant 1 is without question my favorite. For Fall variant 2, I used colors present in some of the German WWII SS schemes. They often bordered on eccentric with the use of turquise and salmon colors. Might seem strange but these colors actually performed well.

While I have this version labeled as Fall variant 3, I really feel it would be better suited for urban areas and winter months. The slight color moves over grey are subtle. I tried to keep it nuetral but introduced an exotic feel as well.
Speaking of winter, these snow patterns are intended to resemble melting snow over dead ground cover. I added "mud" to the edges in an attempt to create some dimension to the shapes. Snow variant 1 has tremendous contrast and the background colors are very effective; so much that I may use them as a basis for a new pattern altogether. Snow variant 2 has less contrast but has a nice bleakness to it that would most likely aid in concealment. The fine overprint lines are added purely for my own artisic pleasure.

I'd like to conduct some studies with this pattern in the field with an actual garment. As it might not be as "blurred" as one might expect, it still serves as a wonderful pattern and perhaps the next versions will have softer edges and better shapes. As it is now, I am pleased with it and will probably start re-building it for printing which will involve choosing actual pantone colors and sizing the pattern and making it set so that it repeats itself naturally. The world doesn't need any more camouflage but I'd like to conduct the study just the same. Sure would be cool to skirmish in it too!

I'll add to this page whatever new developments come about and also include photos of test prints, the influencing patterns, and whatever design changes I make.

My Kompact Assault Vest in SMK camouflage. Aside from being very effective, the combination of shapes and colors makes it a very desirable item for collectors. This is rare - even in Russia!

It's influence on my Blurred patterns is clearly evident.
