VSR
UNIFORM REVIEW
By
FW200
Since the appearance
of the now common Flora pattern, VSR (Schofield) once dominated the Russian
armed forces stockpiles as the most issued pattern of it's time. Now almost
extinct, it has become a hard to find item for collectors and red-alliance
member, FW200 gives us an up-close look at his own sample.
A superb specimen indeed!
This is my review of the VSR uniform I purchased some time
ago, on first glance it seems quite sturdy, the camouflage pattern looks complicated,
as it should. I’ve separated this review in various sections, the jacket
and the trousers. The material for the uniform is (I dunno ) Looks
like the ever-so-nice poly cotton blend fabric.
From
the front you can see the two chest pockets, these are fastened by two buttons
on each.
These
pockets aren’t very deep (13cm) but they are perfect for a pack of cigarettes
(or a small flask of vodka).
On
each arm there is also a pocket, these are closed by two small Velcro patches
so if you want to be silent, don’t use these pockets, these are 14cm deep.
On the inside of the jacket, there is a holster for a Tokarev
or Makarov pistol, it also features a pistol cord (so your pistol doesn’t
fall out ).
On the other side, there is another pocket, which is suitable
for documents and things like that, this pocket is 17cm deep.
The ends of the arms are adjustable so you can make it tighter
or more loose for your personal preference.
The
markings:
These are the markings on the inside of the jacket, I know little Russian but
what I can learn from this is that this uniform was made in 1994.
Also,
there is the number 8039 stamped on the uniform at various places, if anyone
has an idea what this means, please contact me.
The
trousers:
You can see the two leg pockets immediately. The one on your left leg is a pocket
which is suitable for Ak mags. It’s 21.5 cm long and it is divided through
the middle, creating 2 pockets.
I
don’t have any mags here but I’m quite sure they will fit. On the
right leg there is similar pocket, but then without the divider, putting mags
in there would not be handy probably.
At
the bottom of the trouser are two small canvas stirrups.
You
can use these to make the trousers fit more tightly. you then put the looping
piece of canvas under your foot.
Then put on your army boots, this makes sure you get a nice
and tight fit.
Extra
special thanks to comrade FW200 for this review. Looking forward to reviews
on both the GP-5 gasmask and Ssh-68 steel helmet!
