Ron's
US Special Forces Impression Version II: Cold Weather Ops - 2.20.05
It's
really difficult to ask someone who's exhausted after a full day of Airsoft
to pose for some photographs. Most guys (myself included) just want to break
down thier gear, put on a warm parka and get in the car and get home to a nice
hot shower. Even getting them to stand still before a skirmish for one or 2
shots is difficult. Everyone has thier minds on the task at hand and NOT going
off into the woods to have good old Camo shoot pics of them for some silly website.
It is for this
reason that I want to say thank you to my good buddie Ron (Long Island Airsoft)
for taking the time to let me shoot him. As always, he's very patient and
allows me to indulge my inner photographer as I pose him like a full size
GI Joe Action Figure.
We had an amazing
day of Airsoft and I'm very excited that I get to share these pics. Ron decided
on some very interesting gear this time in a particularly unique arrangement.
This action shot to the left is probably my favorite so it heads up the following
photos of this awesome impression.
At
left; Ron at speed across the path of my camera. This is usually how the enemy
sees him!
Overall
the clothing choice was simple. It was a very cold day but with the body armour
acting as a layer of insulation, all that was needed was some basic under-layers.
The polypro undershirt is US military issue. The lower counterpart was also
worn. Ron's only specific quote regarding this impression was simply; "This
impression was NOT inspired by any one picture. It was just what I thought
would look cool and work well for the temperateture." Rest assured, it's
US Special Forces inspired.
It's
amazing how effective the old US woodland in this environment. Over 20 years,
it's still proving itself to be a very useful scheme. This pattern has been
reproduced all over the world and it's no wonder why it's popularity still
has remained so strong. Smart choice here is the polypro undershirt. A goretex
outer shell was kept in a vehicle and would be used in the event of rain or
a sudden dip in temperature. The shell is also in woodland.
One
of the many M4's in his arsenal. My favorite modification to this is the special
collar added to the tubular bttstock for the sling mount. Not as hi tech as
the other items but a very under-appreciated detail.

Loadout
in detail. The Maxpedition M3 stays up high on the chest for all the necessary
items like multi tool, tape, zip ties, ciggs, lighter, etc. The mag pouches
ordinarily hold pistol magazines but for this Op, smoke was carried instead.
Also up high at the ready. Middle photo shows the pistol pouch (weapon was
in the vehicle already) and the Maxpedition dump pouch. Both Ron and I agree
this is probably the most useful pouch one can own; equal in importance to
quality mag pouches when the combat goes high-speed. Speaking of mag pouches,
these Spec-Ops brand mag pouches are made of awesome materials and allow for
easy use. Last pic on he right shows a dynamic feature. If you want to quiet
the outer vecro, just pull forward the inner velcro tab and secure it down.
In this configuration, there is no "velcro tear" when you remove
your mags. If you ned the security of zero mag loss, just flip the inner tab
back in. Nice!
A truly great
rifle sling. This sling springs when you let go of the M4. It's made of
extremely durable nylon and has an extremely strong clasp at the end. This
is a favorite among special operators "over there" and is well
recieved by Ron and a few other airsofters we run with. Personally, my AK
needs dirty, nasty canvas but I'd be willing to try this thing for sure!
Tag on the sling
reads: Z-M Systems 413-648-9501 size large
Guess
that will do for now. I hope the next skirmish we attend yeilds photos as
good as these. Thanks again to Ron for posing my Nikon. Ron can be reached
